About Us
Founder/Director- Kurt Gantert is the founder and Director of Wanderers. He has worked in the outdoor education/adventure travel field for 15 years as a wilderness guide, outdoor educator and a program director for highly-respected companies including Adventures Cross-Country, Mountain Travel Sobek and Naturalists at Large. Kurt has guided hiking and canoe trips in Canada, Alaska, California, North Carolina, Hawaii and the Southwestern US. He is certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR and has taken a 30-day National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) course in Alaska. Kurt likes nothing better than exploring with children in the outdoors. He says this about kids in nature: "The curiosity and excitement kids have in nature is infectious. It always leads me to believe that children are meant to play on rocks, search for critters in streams and just get dirty playing outside!" Kurt resides in San Francisco with his wife and 2 children.
Instructors- Wanderers hires some of the best outdoor educators in the Bay area. All of the instructors are trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. They also have extensive experience leading groups of young people and teaching in the outdoors. We require that instructors are at least 21 years of age or older, have a clean driving record and no criminal background. We specifically hire men and women who love working with children and can effectively share their passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors.
